Definition
Avulsion is the term that refers to ripping away forcibly of a part or structure. In this case, the part or structure refers to the penis.
Etiology
Avulsion of the penis may be the result of various devices or trauma or both.
Signs & Symptoms
The primary functions of the penis are copulation and urination. The effects on these functions will vary depending on the nature of the trauma.
Tests
The disorder is diagnosed by visual inspection.
Treatment
The removed tissues should be maintained, chilled, and reapplied as swiftly as possible. Debridement of the wound should be done cautiously. Grafting the skin may be indicated.
Residuals
Even a completely removed penis may be reattached successfully.

The new criteria for the Genitourinary Disease and Conditions body system became effective November 14, 2021. Review both current and historic criteria prior to any reduction for disabilities established before that date. 38 CFR 3.951(a)
